Posterous: Can blogging get any easier?
Mar 16th, 2009 by Beth

This free tool falls smack dab into the “If Only I Had Known” category. It’s an instant “Beth Favorite.”

Posterous is the easiest blogging tool I’ve ever seen. You simply email post@posterous.com, and they post what you’ve emailed. You can then claim a site of your own and keep posting to it.

It even adds your pictures, videos, documents… anything you attach to the email.

I also hooked it up to post to my Twitter account, and I can make it work with WordPress as well.

I’m feeling a little dizzy with joy right now.

StumbleUpon: Discover new sites
Feb 24th, 2009 by Beth

I discovered StumbleUpon long, long before I discovered how it can send users to my site. Indeed — it was long beforeĀ  IĀ  actually had a site!

This is the coolest time waster ever…. err, I mean the coolest way to discover new sites. You fill out a profile that describes the kinds of sites you’re interested in. I like Internet Tools, Self Improvement, Quotes, Science and other types of sites.

Then you install a tool bar on your browser and hit the Stumble button. StumbleUpon takes you to sites and resources you never knew existed. I set it up for my boyfriend, who likes jazz and cycling, and he discovered radio stations that play classic jazz on the web.

When you find something you like, hit the Thumbs Up button on the tool bar. StumbleUpon saves it for you. If you don’t like a site, there’s a Thumbs Down button so Stumble knows not to bring you to similar sites again.

I can’t tell you how many cool things I’ve discovered here.

Check out my profile to see what I’ve discovered!

Virtual Slide Rule
Feb 17th, 2009 by Beth

I have never in my life needed a slide rule, but this one is a blast to play with.

It’s a follow up to yesterday’s printable rulers.

Printable Rulers: When you can’t find that yardstick
Feb 16th, 2009 by Beth

What a clever idea! This site lets you print out disposable paper rulers when you need them. I like their suggestion that you print on an overhead transparency as well, or cardstock to make your new ruler a little more sturdy.

Some printable paper rulers.

Parody Motivator Generator: Create your own “motivation”
Feb 3rd, 2009 by Beth

Know those motivational posters that have one main word then a small tagline, designed to bring the team together with visions of climbing mountains, building bridges and working hand in hand?

Despair, Inc. lets you make your own motivational posters with the Parody Motivator Generator. You upload your own photo and write your own taglines. This might be great for a group picture of your staff, but I find it a perfect opportunity to share a little sarcasm.

I used a picture of me from age 13 to create this warning against mall hair salons. I’m sure their revenue will go down as a result.

This is free and fun.
