Posterous: Can blogging get any easier?
Mar 16th, 2009 by Beth

This free tool falls smack dab into the “If Only I Had Known” category. It’s an instant “Beth Favorite.”

Posterous is the easiest blogging tool I’ve ever seen. You simply email post@posterous.com, and they post what you’ve emailed. You can then claim a site of your own and keep posting to it.

It even adds your pictures, videos, documents… anything you attach to the email.

I also hooked it up to post to my Twitter account, and I can make it work with WordPress as well.

I’m feeling a little dizzy with joy right now.

Posterous – The place to post everything. Just email us. Dead simple blog by email..

Hey Paste It: Share text via a quick link
Mar 9th, 2009 by Beth

Another cool and very quick way to share info with someone via a link.

With Hey Paste It, you simply paste text into a text box and click Paste Online. Your text is tossed into a unique URL that you can send. Bonus… recipients can then download the info as a .txt file, if needed. I also love that no one has to register anywhere.

Three free tools for easy meeting planning
Mar 3rd, 2009 by Beth

This morning I have to arrange a teleconference for 5 association CEOs. Before I found today’s free tools, here’s what the emails looked like:

Me: “Ok, we’ll try for a meeting Tuesday at noon. Does everyone have the  call-in number?”

CEO 1: “What meeting?”

CEO 2: “Oh, you said Tuesday? Couldn’t we make it Wednesday?”

CEO 3: “Wait… what time zone?”

CEO 4: [Silence]

Luckily I’ve discovered several free tools that allow you to propose meeting times and let attendees indicate their availability.

MeetingWizard (my old favorite) is straightforward and useful. It’s clear what the options are and makes it easy to figure out when everyone can meet. I’ve used it for several events.

TimeBridge (my new favorite) will integrate into your personal calendar so you can schedule meetings on the fly. The biggest benefit is that respondents don’t have to register! Great when you’re dealing with busy CEOs.

Doodle has a great feature that allows participants to indicate if a time is absolutely unavailable, completely acceptable or potentially ok.

Docstoc: Free legal forms and business templates
Feb 24th, 2009 by Beth

In today’s social media world, we’ve all come to rely on the kindness of strangers. That’s why docstoc works… people share copies of legal, business, tech and educational documents with the community, allowing other community members to download them for free.

I did a quick search for an example business plan, and docstoc came back with thousands of documents. You can sort by ranking or popularity and really take a shortcut to creating your own documents.

You can also upload and sync your own documents, keeping them private if you like, for an online storage backup.

The Awesome Highlighter: Share specific info from webpages
Feb 4th, 2009 by Beth

I’m working with a client to completely redo her website, and we’ve been searching other websites for ideas on how to organize info.

With the Awesome Highlighter tool, we can highlight the section we want to share with the other members of the team. After you’ve highlighted the info, the Awesome Highlighter creates a link for the highlighted page.

Here’s a sample I just created.
